‘On the edge of something big’: regional arts conference director appointed
Arts on the edge. That is the theme for the 2014 Regional Arts Australia conference to be held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Newly appointed artistic director Ben Fox said the theme refers to Kalgoorlie’s geographical location as well as regional arts’ imminent transformation.
“Kalgoorlie is on a verge, it’s on the edge of the Super Pit but also on the edge of some really exciting changes socially,” he said.
“The art scene here is really diverse and interesting and there are some really exciting organisations.”
Mr Fox has a long background in the performing arts and theatre and returns from a two year stint in Indonesia to take on the job.
“With the rapid global shifts in technology and the leading role of remote Australia in digital media and communications we really are on the edge of something big,” he said.
Regional Arts Australia is a biennial conference that sees about 1000 delegates from across the country gather to discuss enhancing the arts in country areas.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder was announced as the host at this years’ conference in October.
