Regenerative agriculture science Australia is an emerging field. My studies in agricultural science at Southern Cross University took me on a deep dive into the complex self-adapting systems of modern farming practice and agricultural science: soil, water, livestock and human ecology.

As the first cohort to join the Regenerative Agriculture program at Southern Cross University, the fantastic teaching staff there connected us to fellow practitioners and experts across disciplines, including plant science, agronomy, ecology, agroforestry, environmental chemistry, soil science and socio-ecological systems. We collaborated closely with industry leaders and fellow farmers to address the present and future needs of our food and fibre production landscape.
Driven by a passion for innovation and a deep respect for natural processes, I learned more about working with the social ethos of regenerative practice and the science of agroecology to support more resilient farms and nurture the next generation of land managers.
I studied subjects such as human ecology, agroecology, and the implementation of regenerative agricultural practices, honing my skills in devising holistic strategies for farm and landscape rejuvenation.
Exploring soil science with Dr John Grant was a highlight. I built my understanding of the relationships between soil health, biodiversity, human health and agricultural productivity. I became better at assessing soil quality and implementing regenerative soil management techniques to enhance land management sustainability and resilience.
My research into novel farming systems utilising mycology (fungi) and insects offered exciting possibilities for sustainable agriculture. By exploring the relationships between soil, fungi, insects, cropping and land management, I extended my passion for ecology, soil and water science. During the last year of my degree, I began working with Regenerate Earth, integrating my experience in stakeholder-focused innovative design approaches with ecological land management practices to improve Australian solutions that harmonise human activities, technologies and environments.
