The Brooklyn Museum, housed in a 560,000-square-foot, Beaux-Arts building, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the USA. Its world-renowned permanent collections range from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art, and represent a wide range of cultures. To top it off the museum has dance parties and concerts on the first Saturday night of the month that are super-well attended. www.brooklynmuseum.org
Highlights
The Luce Center for American Art at the Brooklyn Museum. This program allows you to access information about the approximately 2,000 objects on view in the Luce Center’s Visible Storage and Study Center and the adjacent American Identities galleries. This is essentially a huge collection of see-through shelves with amazing things in them – a lot of it modern design. This is the future of physical collections with user-determined interaction and self-curation.
