This handkerchief or slayer was a custom project for Meta-Meta Jogja 2012. I drew up the two fig (banyan) trees by hand, laid out the design from found images and Mas Moki @mukamalas did the screenprint and Putri Santoso was the producer.
These were gifts to each Meta-Meta Jogja 2012 delegate. Slayers have many many uses in Indonesia, but one is as a mask or blindfold. MasAngin is a friendship and visiting ritual in Jogja where a blindfolded person tries to walk a straight line between two trees in the south square of the Kraton in Jogja while their friends take care of them. In the Meta-Meta 2012 opening ceremony we all did this activity with the custom slayers, some pictures are below the break.
The pdf of the design is here if you want do download it and make your own slayer. (Creative Commons license). The animals and the names of the different outcomes are my own addition, following research and discussion with Kunci Cultural Studies.
Please let me know via comments or otherwise if you have any feedback about this project.
