The Save Our Snow Gums project is monitoring groundwater in the Snowy Mountains to investigate the relationships between Snow Gumtree health and groundwater levels. The project website explains “Decline and death of high-elevation forest communities, known as snow-gum dieback, is widespread throughout the Australian Alps. Although anecdotally linked to wood-boring longicorns, the drivers of snow-gum dieback remain unknown.”
This is Professor Leah Moore’s project and Lachlan Fraser makes an appearance with beside in this video as we manually dig an 8.3m deep hole into the alpine gravel soils derived from granodiorites.
